  • What is the selection process for IAs? When will I hear if I have been selected?
New IAs are selected based on an application followed by an interview. The most important qualities we are looking for are mission-alignment, leadership, flexibility, equity-mindedness, dependability, and collaboration. For New IAs, priority selection will go to applicants who have exhausted all Kode With Klossy curricular offerings and/or are 18 years or older. If you are still under 18 and have not attended camps across all of our curricular offerings, we encourage you to do so before applying to become an IA. Returning IAs will complete a written application. Applicants will be notified of their application status on a rolling basis. All applicants will receive a final decision notification by the end of March.
  • Who should apply as a returning IA?
Anyone who has served as an IA at Kode With Klossy camps in previous summers should apply as a "returning IA."
  • Can I apply to be a scholar and an IA? Can I be a scholar after I've served as an IA?
Once you've been an IA you can no longer be a scholar. If you have not attended camps across all of our curricular offerings, we encourage you to consider exhausting all curricular options before applying to become an IA. That said, if you still choose to apply to be an IA but ultimately are not selected, you can still apply to be a scholar.
  • Is this program virtual or in-person?
In the summer of 2024, camps will be held both virtually and in-person in specific locations across the United States. It is important to note that only those who are 18 years old or older by the start of training in March 2024 will be placed in in-person camps.
  • Will I be paid?
Kode With Klossy offers competitive compensation for completing training and leading summer camps. More information can be found in the job posts linked above.
  • Who is eligible to be a Kode With Klossy Instructor Assistant?
The Instructor Assistant position is available to anyone who has attended a Kode With Klossy summer camp. For New IAs, priority selection will go to applicants who have exhausted all Kode With Klossy curricular offerings and/or are 18 years or older. If you are still under 18 and have not attended camps across all of our curricular offerings, we encourage you to do so before applying to become an IA.
  • What commitment do I need to make to camps?
Ideally, IAs are able to commit to 2 camp placements (i.e. 4 weeks) over the summer. It is expected that you are able to work for the full two weeks (10 days) of your camp, as well as be available the week prior to prepare for your camp. We will ask for your summer availability as part of your application. You will be expected to complete training in the spring in advance of your camp - more information can be found in the job description.
  • How does Kode With Klossy place IAs into camps?
During the application process, applicants will be able to indicate their availability to teach in specific locations, modalities, and time periods. If selected, our team will use the information provided to match each IA to specific camps.
  • I have questions about Instructor Assistants - how can I reach out?
Please direct all questions and inquiries to: instruction@kodewithklossy.com
  • What do scholars learn and what coding languages are taught?
In a two-week Kode With Klossy camp, scholars learn one of four curriculum options: Website Development, Mobile Application Development, Data Science, or Machine Learning. No coding experience is required for scholars, and many scholars return to participate in camp each year. Over the course of ten days, scholars work collaboratively to learn, code and apply those learnings to a capstone final project, demoed on the final day for friends and family. Throughout camp, scholars do so much more than just code: they engage in culture of technology discussions, do yoga, meditation, dance, make TikToks, build community through brain breaks, personal reflection, and group discussion. Scholars then become lifelong members and alumni of the robust Kode With Klossy network.
  • Do I need computer science or coding experience to apply?
While previous experience learning or teaching computer science is a plus, it is not required to apply. Kode With Klossy provides its instructors with extensive pre-service training so that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to lead camps.
  • Who is eligible to be a Kode With Klossy instructor?
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, be eligible to work in the United States and be a current or former licensed K - 12 educator. Finally, candidates must be committed to learning our coding custom curriculum.
  • How will instructors be selected?
New instructors are selected based on an application, an interview, and a professional reference. Returning instructors will be selected based on their performance in previous summers, an application, and a technical task submission. The most important qualities we are looking for are mission-alignment, leadership, flexibility, equity-mindedness, dependability, and collaboration.

  • Are camps really free?
Yep! Camps are free of cost to scholars. Access to equipment is not required for participation.
  • I'm interested but still have questions - how can I reach out?
Please direct all questions and inquiries to: applications@kodewithklossy.com
  • Who teaches camps?
All camps are co-taught by 2 instructors, who are licensed educators, with the support of at least 2 instructor assistants.
  • What will scholars learn?
Scholars will be placed in one of four curricular offerings, based on availability and prior experience in Kode With Klossy camps. Camps include activities outside of just direct learning, including hosting inspirational women in technology as part of a speaker series.
  • Who is eligible to attend camps?
Camps are available to girls, gender nonconforming & trans students ages 13-18 who feel comfortable learning in a female-identifying environment.
  • Do I need prior coding experience?
No previous computer science experience is necessary to participate in any curricular offering.
